Entry requirements
All people applying for the coaching training will have:
- A degree in a relevant subject area, such as
psychology, sociology, management, counselling,
sport or business or have completed a vocational
education.
- Or at least two years experience and practice
in the world of business and/or experience in one
of the professions.
- Or two years personal development either on the
job, or privately or through continuing professional
development, or in service training.
If this has
not yet been available then a willingness on behalf
of the candidate to attend some personal development
workshops during and after the course. (The purpose
of this is to make sure our own needs and wishes
are not put on our coaching clients.) This makes
sure that the coach has good self awareness and is
therefore more able to give the coached person the
highest quality service.
- Experience of being supervised, mentored or
coached.
The Course comprises...
A total of 609 hours:
A two day 101 introductory course followed by six modules, five of three days and one of two days which includes the Viva.
- 101 Introductory course = 14 Hours
- Main Programme 140 hours of contact time, including 10 hours Supervision
- Practice
- Approximately 36 hours of peer Coaching throughout the course:
- Completion of a Coaching process with a client = 16 Hours
- Completion of being Coached = 16 Hours
- Being Coached with a senior accredited Coach = 4 Hours (minimum)
External coaching of 18 hours with an external client not on the course
Additional practice requirements:
- In addition following completion of the training at Diploma level, a further 30 hours of coaching under supervision is required for Advanced Diploma Status.

- Mandatory recommended reading list with a requirement of evidence of eight books read
- Book Reviews
- Case Study/essay
- 360 degree review
- Viva

Final Exam / Course Completion
Viva is costed at £100 for External Examiner
On completion of the course the candidate will be awarded a Diploma from the Iron Mill Institute which is an EAS accredited Institute to proceed to EAS accreditation following submission of 2nd Case Study, based on the work of eighteen hours’ external coaching. A separate external marking fee will be charged for this Case Study.
In addition graduates will become accredited by LBCAI and will be eligible to apply for EMCC and ICF for membership. The course also has an EMCC Quality Award.
It is also endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management.
Continuing professional development
After qualifying CPD is expected which includes:
- Supervision
- Personal Development
- Service to professional association
- Peer supervision
- Attendance at conferences
- Workshops at the Iron Mill Institute or elsewhere
- Further study
